This past weekend, the Texas State University Geography Department hosted a lively welcome party for both new and returning graduate students. The event was a perfect blend of camaraderie, delicious food, and fun activities, setting a positive tone for the upcoming academic year.
The evening kicked off with a feast featuring mouth-watering pizzas from Pie Society, a beloved local pizza shop known for its creative and tasty pies. In true potluck style, attendees also brought a variety of sides, from fresh salads to decadent desserts, showcasing the diverse culinary skills within the geography community.
After everyone had their fill, the games began! A spirited round of Geo-Guesser had students guessing locations from all around the world, testing both their geographic knowledge and competitive spirit. Outside, a friendly cornhole tournament provided another outlet for fun, with students teaming up and engaging in some light-hearted competition under the warm Texas evening sky.
The party was more than just a gathering; it was a celebration of community, marking the beginning of another exciting year of learning, research, and exploration in the field of geography. For the new students, it was a chance to meet their peers and professors in a relaxed setting, while returning students enjoyed reconnecting and sharing stories of their summer adventures.
Eat ’em up!
